The Gum Regeneration
Procedures
When Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. conducts a gum tissue regeneration procedure, the sagging pockets are cleaned by first folding the gum tissue back and removing bacteria. A thin resorbable membrane is then inserted between the gum tissue and the pocket. This membrane will encourage and promote the body to regenerate the bone and gum tissue. This membrane also stimulates new tissue growth and acts as a barrier so that the faster-growing soft tissues cannot invade the space where the bone is developing.
Gum grafting is a popular and successful method of gum regeneration. The process involves taking a small amount of tissue from the roof of your mouth and suturing it to the areas that require regeneration. As the graft heals, it will grow with the gums around your teeth, closing the pockets and the gaps to restore an even smile line.
Gum grafting is slightly invasive, and we perform this treatment using a local anesthetic, with dental sedation possible if deemed necessary. You must follow a soft-food diet and take care of your teeth and gums while the graft heals. Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. will give you specific instructions to follow during your healing process.
If you are dealing with tooth loss because of severe gum disease, you will realize that your jawbone naturally deteriorates in mass and density as well. This will affect the shape of your face as well as the opportunity to successfully receive a tooth replacement solution like a dental implant. Bone grafting is a frequent and common procedure as part of gum regeneration.
Like gum grafting, bone grafting can involve your own natural bone or an artificial alternative, placed directly next to the area of the jaw that needs growth. This graft is attached, allowing both the existing and new bone to regenerate together, building strength and integrity in your jaw. This procedure is often used to prepare your jawbone for dental implants. The dental implant is a tiny titanium post surgically placed into the jaw, functioning as an artificial root, to form a permanent base for the artificial crown.
The sinuses are the system of connected cavities behind your cheeks that help with our respiratory processes. The maxillary sinuses are located on both sides of your nose and above the upper jaw. If you have had tooth loss in your upper arch and are considering dental implants to replace those missing teeth, Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. may recommend that you have this simple procedure. A sinus lift is necessary when the bone in the upper jaw is too close to the sinuses, so the surgical placement of the implant posts will not potentially damage the sinuses.
