The Laser Periodontal
Therapy Procedure
As your gum disease progresses, the gums drift away from your teeth, and sagging pockets will grow around the teeth where bacteria can flourish. Without an appropriate and timely intervention, you will experience considerable damage to your gum tissue, bone degeneration, and eventually tooth loss. Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. will use the laser to remove all diseased matter without damaging any healthy tissue. After this laser periodontal therapy, your gum tissue regenerates naturally and reattaches to the tooth to restore your natural and healthy smile.
To identify the differences between laser periodontal therapy and conventional periodontal surgery, the absolute definition of no cutting, no sewing, and no fear will help increase your outlook and acceptance of the procedure. By eliminating fear and anxiety of the procedure, we can now encourage both you and other patients to receive this treatment that is needed for advanced periodontal disease.
Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. uses a precise laser to remove the bacteria and diseased tissue in and around the pockets. The light from the laser is not absorbed by healthy tissue or bone. This makes laser periodontal therapy far less invasive for you.
Next, we might need to remove any remaining calculus deposits on your teeth that have formed under your gum line using tiny ultrasonic scalers. The laser is not effective on this step. We then apply the laser again at the bottom of the periodontal pockets to stimulate your soft tissue, bone, and root, creating a nice, tight seal around the teeth. This step allows the blood to immediately begin clotting, which forms a clean and hygienic environment for healing. We finish the procedure by recompressing your tissue against the root surfaces of the teeth without using any sutures.
Finally, Periodontal and Implant Associates, Inc. will conclude with an evaluation of your bite to make sure that the laser periodontal therapy did not cause any trauma to your teeth, especially the ones that have experienced bone loss.
